6000 + and NO flat tires…
Do you ever think about how much time you spend in places other than the present? I know that I spend at *least* 40% of my “time” in the past and in the future. Replaying situations and planning for things to come… worrying about events that have yet to take place and reminiscing on those that have. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great to plan for the future. In fact, I am very much a planner. This summer has been interesting for me because I have been more sporadic than usual. I think that comes with the lack of a real schedule. I am enjoying it, but when life gets back to normal I will embrace the opportunity to be my type C self again. :)
One of my greatest fears while driving (above engine failure, getting killed by an ax murderer, etc) is getting a FLAT TIRE. I don’t know why I’m so needlessly afraid of it, but it’s been on my top 5 list of fears for several years now. A friend of mine got a flat tire not too long ago and said it was one of the scariest experiences in a car that she had ever had. I think it’s the fear of the unknown… not knowing how to direct my car off the road, not being prepared for it, not having both hands on the wheel when it happens.. running into the guard rail… *shiver*… it goes on. For whatever reason, I think about it for at least a nonconsecutive hour while driving anywhere. I mentally map out what I will do if/when it happens… I think about accidents I have avoided in the past and what maneuvers I took to do so… etc. And now, in the present, I realize that I *probably* should be paying more attention to the current conditions than planning for the disaster that may never happen. It just got me thinking yesterday while driving back to St. Louis about how much time we spend in places other than the present. It’s something I want to work on.
Anyhow, spent the weekend in Lincoln and had a great time out with the NE crew. Went out to the old country club where I used to work, hit up downtown one night, and spent 3-4 hours playing wii with one of my very best friends. Back in STL for the week and we are having some really excellent weather. At least the humidity has dropped below 99% ;) … for now.
